MISSION TRIPS: VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION (VIM)

Haiti Group

VIM Trips are for adults or youth with an accompanying parent, and are sponsored by the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM). UMVIM volunteers go out in teams to do construction and spiritual formation projects for people and places in need. They are people of all different skill levels, serving as the hands and eyes of Christ.

In recent years, Glen Mar has sent VIM teams to Merger, Haiti and Tuscaloosa, AL. The Haiti teams are primarily comprised of adults, while the Tuscaloosa summer trips are open to youth currently in 12th grade and collegians.

Haiti Trips

Our work in Haiti centers on building the Miracia Hospital in Merger, Haiti (outside Port-au-Prince) with Institute of Grace. In 2014, we made two trips to Haiti, one in January, and one in April over the Howard County spring break period. View our video Hope for Haiti.

January trip: Tentative dates are Jan. 2-12, 2015. Contact Rob Boyle at vim@glenmarumc.org.

Can't make it on a trip? You can still help the children of Merger, Haiti: It costs only $300 to send one child to school for a year at the Ecole Filostin Primary School in Merger, Haiti. This includes one hot meal every day! Please help. Miracia Scholarship Fund Flyer

Tuscaloosa, AL Trips

The Tuscaloosa trips are open to youth who are currently 12th graders and collegians as well as adults. They typically take place over the summer. We work with Tuscaloosa Habitat for Humanity and are hosted by the Episcopal Tornado Recovery Cooperative. In 2012, we worked on a home being sponsored by Major League Baseball, which was highlighted during an All-Star game. Stay tuned for information about upcoming trips.
