Glen Mar participates in many local outreach ministries as well as mission trips in the U.S. and abroad. Check out our links to see how you can get involved, and check back often for announcements of upcoming events.
Announcements and Needs:
- Haiti VIM Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, Tues. Oct. 7: from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Spaghetti w/marinara or meat sauce available along with special Haitian toppings for the adventurous. Side salad and bread also will be served. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased in The Gathering Place following worship, or at the door. - The Gift Card Program recently passed the $3 million mark! The Gift Card program generates extra money for many ministries by selling gift cards at face value which were purchased at an average 5% discount. After seven years gift card sales recently passed the $3 million mark during the height of the summer mission trip season, which has generated an extra $140,000 for mission trip scholarships, disaster and humanitarian relief and many, many ministries. Grocery cards are the most popular (Giant at $900,000 and Safeway at $300,000) followed by gasoline (Shell, $145,000, Exxon, $115,000) plus many other merchants. A quick sample - Home Depot $125,000; Lowes $70,000; Marriott $103,000, American Express $125,000; Kohl’s $58,000; Wal-Mart $94,000, Dunkin Donuts $33,000 and Amazon $32,000.
- Habitat for Humanity, Sat. Oct. 11: Come build dreams with us! Meet at Glen Mar at 8:15 a.m. and carpool to the work site. Experience welcome but not necessary. Ages 16 and older. Construction not your gift? Help is also needed with the Re Store, and with putting together a welcome basket for the upcoming home dedication. - PATH Candidates' Accountability Action, Tues. Oct. 21, 7-9 p.m.: at Saint John Baptist Church, Columbia, MD. Come for a lively and informative evening to hear how Howard County Candidates for County Executive and School Board respond to PATH's (People Acting Together in Howard) agenda of Affordable Housing, Youth and Seniors. - Our Turn @ Rt. 1 Day Center (10/25/14): One of 50 churches supporting the Grassroots Rt. 1 Day Center, Glen Mar provides lunch on the 4th Saturday of every month, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. To contribute to the potluck or serve on site, RSVP here: http://tinyurl.com/gmumcroute1. Note: We particularly need another driver willing to drive the Day Center's van, or even ride shotgun to learn the routine and serve as back up.

- Ongoing Food Collection for Grassroots: Grassroots Donation Ministry, an ongoing collection to meet immediate needs at Grassroots Family Shelter and Rt. 1 Day Center. Get the details.
- Giant and Safeway Shoppers register your customer courtesy cards to support Glen Mar ministries. Giant cards support the Wm. Pinderhughes Elementary and Middle school in Sandtown, a block from our inner-city ministry partner, Ames Memorial UMC. Safeway cards generate funds that support mission trip scholarships. Register cards at the gift table.
- Online Shoppers: Visit www.igive.com/welcome, register as a Glen Mar supporter, then click on links to favorite merchants. A percentage of every purchase is rebated to Mission Ministries.
- Day of Service, Jan. 19, 2015 (MLK Day): Be part of a planning team to organize a day of family-oriented,short-term service workshops and activities for all ages at Glen Mar and other locations in the community.
